Marked Tree Rd - Road Construction Upgrades

Project Description

The redesign of Marked Tree Road was initiated in response to community feedback highlighting safety concerns with the current road layout. The project spans the entire length of Marked Tree Road, from Great Plain Avenue to Central Avenue. It includes:

  • Realignment of the roadway
  • Installation of new ADA-accessible sidewalks and ramps
  • New curbing and drainage improvements
  • Asphalt pavement and updated paint markings

Sections of the existing sidewalk that pose accessibility challenges will be addressed. The design team will also contact individual residents where the new design may physically impact their properties.

In preparation for this project, all major utilities along Marked Tree Road have been upgraded in recent years. The town has contracted GPI to analyze various design options, resulting in two preliminary (25%) design plans.

The construction schedule will likely span two seasons, depending on contractor selection. The primary goal is to enhance safety while preserving the road's existing character. The project will be funded through Chapter 90 and other potential funding sources.

A public meeting was held on December 16, 2024, to present the two proposed design options and receive Input from residents and the general public. The meeting was held in-person and online. Public engagement is essential to shape the final design and ensure the project remains on track for potential construction in 2025.
