Adult Program Sponsored by the Needham Conservation Commission Join Joy Marzolf, Naturalist and Educator, for an adult evening program. What is a vernal pool? It is a fresh water pool that may only have water in winter, spring and early summer and may dry up by fall. In the spring vernal pool animals are often in a race against time for survival before the pool dries up. Learn about these seasonal pools and the many creatures that might inhabit them.

Come celebrate spring at the Needham History Center and Museum’s annual Pansy Day Fundraiser on Saturday, April 8, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. There will be pansy plants of all sizes – flats, potted arrangements, and hanging planters in an array of vibrant colors to purchase. Beautifully created containers will also be available to adorn patios and porches. Items from the History Center’s Gift Shop and Heirloom Shop will also be available to browse and purchase. The pansy, Needham's Official Flower, was developed by Needham's "Pansy King," Swiss botanist Denys Zirngiebel. Zirngiebel was a commercial grower who developed several spectacular varieties of the flower at his greenhouses on South Street. Free and open to the public, Pansy Day will be held on the grounds of the Needham History Center and Museum, 1147 Central Avenue in Needham. For more information about Pansy Day, contact Gloria Greis at (781) 455-8860 or greis@needhamhistory.org.
