Benefits of the Training Hub
- Standardized training for all MA inspectors in various environmental health disciplines
- 1:1 training opportunities with Training Hub trainers for all inspectors (Tier 3)
- Starter kits of all required inspectional equipment provided to each inspector
- Ad hoc refresher & training sessions, facilitated by the Hub trainers
- Technical assistance (e.g. document reviews, questions)
- Equipment lending library available to all inspectors
Current Training Hub Initiatives
Document Reviews
Hub trainers are now able to provide document reviews for your department! This could include reviewing inspection forms, order letters, or any other documentation you are looking for feedback on. Please contact Sam Menard, North Central & MetroWest's Lead Trainer, to learn more about this process.
Equipment Lending Library
The North Central & MetroWest Training Hub now offers inspectional equipment available for inspectors throughout the Training Hub to borrow. These items are intended to provide inspectors the opportunity to use equipment that may not be available at their department. Visit our Lending Library page to see what is available.
Tiers 1, 2, and 3 of Food Trainings are available!
Tier 1 is available to register for on Train MA at your convenience.
Tier 2 is available 2-3 times per year. Check out our Events & Trainings page for all updates.
Tier 3 is available upon completion of Tier 1 & Tier 2. A Hub trainer will reach to you to initiate Tier 3.

Training Hub Program Structure
Tier 1: Foundational Knowledge
- Asynchronous online learning administered through TRAIN MA and other platforms.
- Opportunity to for trainees to develop baseline knowledge on their own time.
Tier 2: Intensive Training
- In-person and virtual instructor-led classroom trainings
- Builds upon knowledge gained in Tier 1
- Opportunity for trainees to expand knowledge in preparation for real-time public health scenarios.
Tier 3: Applied Practice
- Hands-on experience for carrying out real-time public health job duties, such as inspections.
- Facilitated alongside Trainer with a feedback assessment at the end.
- Opportunity for trainees to build skills and expertise.
