When is the Rosemary Recreation Complex opening...

Great News!   All permits are approved, and the contractors are finishing up the final small tasks so that we can open The Pools at Rosemary Recreation Complex.

OFFICIAL OPENING DATE:  Saturday, August 11 from 10 AM – 7:45 PM

We will have an Open House (NO SWIMMING) for the following, today – Friday, August 10 from 2 PM – 7 PM.

  • Come and take the deep water test or the slide test, and get your wrist band so you don’t have to stand in line on your first day (if you pass deep water test, you are automatically approved for use of slides)
  • Take a tour of the Pool facility and pick up information flyer
  • Pick up pre-paid membership fobs
  • Purchase guest pass booklets (sold in groups of 10)
  • Spray deck will be open for use during this time
  • Restrooms will be getting their start-up cleaning at 5 PM

August 9th AM update:

As we wait for all our final permits…a few notes to prepare to come for the first time…

Please note that many are excited to visit the new pools, so it will be crowded.  There are two lots that hold 98 cars, and auxiliary parking is at Memorial Park and across the lake at Chamber’s Cove.  There is a sidewalk that will bring you down to the entrance.   Please do not use the Library or adjacent private lots.

Bring your valuables in with you, and do not leave in cars, or leave anything visible in your cars.  There are small lockers available in the bathhouse – bring your own lock.  There are people breaking in to cars at recreation sites in nearby towns.

Many of our ordered amenities have not arrived, yet, including chairs for the tiers, umbrellas, and tables/chairs on the plaza.  We have our plastic Adirondack chairs out that were donated by Community Center of Needham in 2016.  You are welcome to bring your own chairs and umbrellas.

Park and Recreation has toys, pool noodles and kickboards ready for use.  By state code, no outside toys are permitted, as we need to keep items sanitized to protect the water quality.   A ping-pong table will be available, and paddles and balls can be borrowed from the Booth.

Two drink machines and a snack machine are stocked and ready for use.  They now accept credit/debit cards.  We are waiting for delivery of the ice cream freezer, so we can sell pre-packaged treats for $1 each (cash, check or credit card) at the Booth.

August 7, 2018 Update

We still can’t give the specific opening date, until we finish the few final tasks and have all our inspections for permits and insurance.  But, we are within days!   We’ll keep you updated – and get some information out to help with the transition to this beautiful new facility.  Please keep checking this website for opening day information.  Our office is in the process of moving, so it is challenging answering all calls and private messages.

The Pools at Rosemary Recreation Complex have a state-of-the-art filter system, using chlorine in both pools and UV as an addition in the family pool.   The filters can catch tiny microbes of bacteria – but we ask that you all help us keep the pool water clean!

  • Taking a cleansing shower before entering the pools.  If you forget your soap, check at the Booth for a complimentary bar.
  • Perfume and aftershave can cause allergic reactions to other swimmers, which isn’t an issue after a cleansing shower.
  • Park and Recreation has lots of fun toys for use.  The state asks that other toys not be brought onto the site.
  • Swim diapers are required, and should be form fitting.  There are changing stations in the family restrooms.  If you forget a swim diaper, they are available for $1, in sizes Small, Medium, and Large.
  • There are 3 rinse stations located throughout the facility that can be used for a quick rinse before going home, or after playing in the sand.
  • A bubbler is located near the sand, and two are at the building.  One is a bottle filler, so you are welcome to bring fillable bottles.
  • Most importantly – if someone has been sick, especially with loose stool, it is best to wait to use the pools until the illness is clearly out of the swimmer’s system.  Fecal accidents cause a pool to be shut down temporarily.
  • We’ve been working with a goose management company and have no evidence of Canada Geese coming into the facility for several days, now.

Thank you for partnering with us on having clean pools.

August 2, 2018 UPDATE:

Despite the best efforts of contractors, sub-contractors and Town staff, we aren’t going to be able to open the Pools at Rosemary Recreation Complex on Saturday, August 4th, which was our goal.  We need about one more week to resolve an issue in the bathhouse, which needs to be done prior to getting all of our permits.   It involves scheduling several different contractors, many of which are making this final safety issue a priority project.   Please continue to check for updates.

If you drove by today, you saw that the lifeguards were finally able to get into the water for training purposes, only.  They will continue to work on training skills while we wait for the final permits.   The Park and Recreation Office will remain staffed at 500 Dedham Avenue, since the new office needs to wait for the final permits, too.

The Rosemary trails are back open, but please do not park in the lower lot, as we give the new pavement more time to cure.  The upper parking lot can be used, and then walk down to the new trail head.  Beware of construction vehicles coming in and out of the driveway.

All of us at Park and Recreation understand your impatience – we are too, and the past few weeks have seemed the longest to wait.  But, we want to make sure everything is done correctly.  There will still be some niceties that will be in place for next summer – but the stars of the site – the pools and spray deck, are just about ready for you.
