[ARCHIVED] Update on COVID-19 From the Town of Needham and Needham Public Health

 April 22, 2021 – The Town of Needham and Needham Public Health today provided the following update regarding COVID-19.


State DPH COVID-19 Numbers

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reports the number of positive cases and deaths daily on the state's COVID-19 dashboard.

Town-specific case numbers are published by the state every Thursday.

  • 1,716 Needham cases to date (4/22/2021). This is an increase of 28 cases since the 4/15/21 report.
  • Needham is in the YELLOW category this week. Read the state’s Weekly Public Health Report here.
  • 125 Coronavirus deaths in Needham to date (4/22/21).*
    *Due to a transcription error, the number included in last week’s report and in the 4/8/21 report should have been 125. There have been no new COVID-related deaths in Needham since 4/8/21.

 Needham Free Public Library to Re-Open June 1

The Needham Free Public Library will re-open to the public for indoor access beginning June 1, 2021. To ensure sufficient staffing and provide the safest possible experience for patrons, the library will end its curbside pickup program May 29, 2021. Additional details will be shared in the coming weeks as the Library staff works with Needham Public Health to ensure that plans for providing services are aligned with COVID best practices. Library officials anticipate patrons will be able to do the following:

• Browse for books and other public materials for a certain amount of time;

• Reserve items over the phone;

• Reserve and use computers for a set amount of time; and more.

Needham Health and Human Services Shares Recap of COVID-19 Response Efforts to Date

Staff of the various Health and Human Services Divisions last week shared with the Select Board a recap of their efforts to protect and support the community during COVID-19. The presentation includes information from Needham Public Health, Youth and Family Services and Aging Services. The presentation includes information on contact tracing efforts, vaccinations, inspections of restaurants, retail and housing, mental health services provided, services to seniors and much, much more. Thank you to all of our HHS staff for their tremendous (and ongoing) efforts during this pandemic.
